Workshop on managing shocks: connecting regional and global responses past and present

Tomorrow, March 7th, marks the start of a new workshop within the Oxford Martin Programme on Changing Global Orders. Taking place at the Oxford Martin School, participants will explore the crucial and evolving roles of regional institutions and actors in managing shocks and crises within the international arena. Throughout the workshop, attendees will scrutinise the positioning of regional actors amidst a backdrop of global crises, including recent events in the Middle East and Ukraine, the global pandemic, and the ongoing climate crisis. At the core of the workshop’s agenda lies the recognition of the often-underestimated significance of regional bodies in mitigating and managing such upheavals.

This collaborative gathering brings together a diverse array of experts including international relations’ scholars, historians, legal scholars, and more. Together, they will explore the evolving dynamics among and between global and regional institutions, arguing for the indispensable role of the latter in shaping new international orders.

The event represents a joint initiative between The Oxford Martin Programme on Changing Global Orders and the United Nations University Institute on Comparative Regional Integration Studies. Please note that participation in the workshop is by invitation only.
