Dr. Boyd van Dijk, an Oxford Martin Fellow at Changing Global Orders, Research Associate at the Faculty of History, and Non-Stipendiary Research Fellow at Nuffield College, is a scholar focusing on international law, humanitarianism, and global ordering in the modern period.

Within the project, he explores questions related to food security, particularly those at the intersection of armed conflict, international law, and institutions. Van Dijk’s latest monograph, ‘Preparing for War: The Making of the Geneva Conventions,’ was published by Oxford University Press in 2022 and received the 2023 Certificate of Merit from the American Society of International Law. His insights also reach wider audiences through contributions to publications such as Past & Present, The American Journal of International Law, and outlets like Le Grand Continent and the Washington Post. He is currently in the process of preparing a new book manuscript that explores the practices of international rules and institutions in armed conflict.
