We are delighted that Professor Stefanie Middendorf will be a Visiting Fellow at the Oxford Martin Programme of Changing Global Orders in 2024 and 2025. Professor Middendorf is the Chair of Modern and Contemporary History at the Friedrich-Schiller-University in Jena. She is an internationally recognised expert on European statehood, capitalist economies and governance in the long 20th century.

Her research interests are closely aligned to the Changing Global Orders programme and she will contribute a unique and deep expertise on the modern global economy. Her research focuses on notions of economic, social and political (dis-)order that emerge from the management of crises in spaces that are not confined to national boundaries. Prof Middendorf is pursuing currently very fruitful research into the interaction between expert knowledge, governmental practices and social perceptions, and working with the team, Professor Middendorf’s empirical and conceptual expertise will also help us tease out the dimensions of ‘order‘ during turbulent time.
