The Changing Global Orders Programme to welcome Professor Steven Bernstein as Oxford Martin Visiting Fellow

We are delighted that Professor Steven Bernstein will be a Visiting Fellow at the Oxford Martin Programme of Changing Global Orders in May and June 2026. Steven is the Distinguished Professor of Global Environmental and Sustainability Governance and Co-Director of the Environmental Governance Lab (Dept. of Political Science and School of the Environment) at University of Toronto. His current research projects investigate transformative policies and initiatives to achieve decarbonization, coherence and incoherence in global sustainability governance, and change and transformation in international relations and global environmental politics in theory and practice.

Professor Bernstein’s work speaks very powerfully to several of the salient strands of the Changing Global Orders programme. In particular, he has been concerned with bringing together understandings of change and transformation within International Relations with the parallel, but often far too separate, understandings within environmental studies. By tapping into the emerging findings of Professor Bernstein’s current research we will be able to expand our project in novel directions, conceptually and temporally, as well as to reach wider audiences and to develop further international collaboration, especially with the University of Toronto.
