The Oxford Martin Programme on Changing Global Orders has concluded its Global Shocks podcast series, hosted by Dr. Jan Eijking. Across seven episodes, he brought together leading policymakers, scholars, and experts from international and regional organisations, including the European External Action Service, World Health Organisation, and OECD.
Each episode explored key questions on issues related to global shocks: how has each organisation adapted to recent crises? What role do they play, and how do they manage past and emerging global challenges? Dr. Eijking now plans to create an oral history archive from these interview for future research.
Jan explained: “Leading figures from intergovernmental but also nongovernmental organisations shared with us a fascinating range of lessons that these organisations draw from past experiences with crisis: how social media has changed the ICRC's relationship with the public; how a multipolar order can enable but also constrain the action capacity of the EU’s external action service; how crisis can bring practical opportunities for but also introduce new limits to institutional innovation at the OECD; and much more.”
